“I Have to Tell You Something!” (2021) was a community project which used physical theatre (movement) and storytelling to present realties of gay/bisexual/queer men* in Austria. The aim was to research and present the complexity of experiences of gay/bisexual/queer men* and to reflect on the interconnections of (auto)homophobia and culturalism. Personal stories were told by opening a safe space for self- expression within the group.
“What can we create together as a group? The stage belongs to us and we’re going to express the complexity of our existence on it! Let’s challenge ourselves to self reflect on our roles as men* and let´s question manhood and toxic masculinity.”
“I have to tell you something!” had a focus on possibilities of individual and collective healing by emphasizing mutual experiences and encouraging participants to explore them.
